Strep Test

Clinically known as streptococcal pharyngitis, the strep throat is one of the most common causes of bacterial sore throats among children today. However, even adults are susceptible to this condition, and it’s not at all uncommon for them to have one.

There are several possible reasons for a bacterial sore throat, and though the streptococcal infection is the usual culprit, it’s best to be sure so that appropriate treatment can be given. To this end, the strep test was devised in order to provide quick and easy way to check for the presence of strep throat.

Within the strep tests, there are different types of tests that probe for specifics such as the strep B condition. Also, the rapid strep test is designed to produce results as quickly as 20 minutes.

A strep test is ordered by the doctor as soon as he or she notices some symptoms such as a sore throat, a fever, and swollen tonsils. Though it is rare, a strep throat may cause secondary complications which can have serious implications. For this reason, it is advised not to wait for any period of time before visiting a doctor. The sooner the patient gets a strep test done, the better.
