Home Strep Test

There are some families where members get a strep infection quite regularly, especially if there are kids around. Children are one of the major targets of the streptococcus bacteria, and a strep test is necessary to be sure. Since most throat infections are caused by a virus, it’s not wise to take antibiotics at the first sign of a sore throat which might clear up on it’s own.

At the same time, a strep test is a bit of a pain - having to go to a doctor and waiting for the results. Due to this, the home strep test is an excellent option where a strep throat is a common occurrence. A home strep test is also a great time saver where you can get a quick idea of what the problem is without going to a doctor.

A home strep test isn’t100% accurate and if you are suspicious of a negative result, the best thing to do is to go to a doctor and have a rapid strep test done. However, it’s still a good reference point for you to have and if your gut feel tells you that it’s accurate (based on your previous experience), you can just wait for the sore throat to clear up. Of course, it could mean that the patient has another kind of bacteria, but again your experience with these will tell you what to do.
